On Christmas Day 1936, the venerable State Theatre opened at 69 South Main Street in downtown London. A holiday crowd thronged the new theatre to see its first feature offering, “Earth Worm Tractors,” starring Joe. E. Brown, that kept the audience laughing during its 69 minute running time. Since that memorable day, the State has been one of the very few movie theatres in Ohio if not the entire country to have had a continuous run for 73 years.
